>I am not allowed to crop any of my pictures. I can do >everything else, but crop. If I crop my editors hair turns >grey. I dont know why, but thats the way it is.
How would she know it's cropped if don't tell her??
>If there is any cropping to do the editor crops and enlarges >and only her. I made that error once, not again.
Like I said, every sports shooter I know crops. Local paper, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, etc. The only time I know of shooters NOT cropping is when transmissions are happening real time up to the booth or the card runner is grabbing cards. And they crop in the booth before submission. That's how it's done at the Superbowl, World Cup, Olympics, etc.
>Perrone, do you have any shot with a remote and strobe along >with 50mm
Sorry, I don't strobe sports. It's not permitted in Florida for high schools, and only AP, SI, Presswire, and a few others can do it at the college level. I am working on an exception to that for volleyball because its SO bad, but we'll see.
>My editor likes me to shoot pretty tight basketball photos >for newspaper, but I can see a problem in the future. > >The 50mm is not going to give me the results I need. I dont >think. > >Does anyone have photos shot with 50mm under basket and >perimeter shots. > >My editor doesnt like to crop. She likes to run the photos >just as I shoot them , unless she has a tight space to fill. > >Perrone, got anything like that. I would like to see what its >going to look like, before I get started. May have to go back >to 70-200. > >Thanks in advance
your editor is right about the pictures because I am an editor too. If you have two camera bodies you can switch between the 50 mm and the 70-200 mm lenses. That is how the professional sportphotographers work. If you have only one camera I recommend the 70-200. One step back and the pictures will be fine too.
The Sports Editor writes her sports story and what ever space is left over they use photos to fill in. I do know the front page sports photo must be as close to square as possible. Depending on space my photos could be square or rectangle. It depends on the space available. If I crop the photo vertically and she needs it square or otherwise. I have ruined that particular photo and have to send another "uncropped" photo.
I just leave it alone and everything is fine and she does he thing.
