I shoot indoor high school boys volleyball and mens college vb. Currently I get close and shoot with my F/1.8 85mm at 2.8 and 1/1000sec. I am thinking of getting a Nikon 180mm F/2.8 D IF AF ED prime lens so I can step back and get other angles without excessive cropping. This lens 'used' is much less expensive than a 70-200 zoom, I don't need the VR with the fast shutter speed and it's much lighter. When I sit in the bleachers or am near the back line, 180mm seems like the right FL (checked it out with my 18-200). Does anyone have any experience with the 180mm F/2.8 for this type of application and would there be any negatives in purchasing it. (PS - I have a D7000). Thanks and happy trails!
