A couple of images from this years Tour de France... Stage 18, Blagnac to Brive. I ride this section of road occasionally and I'm usually doing around 25 mph or so.... these guys were absolutely flying, I'd guess around 45 to 50 mph. The first image is of the breakaway group which included David Millar, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Alexandre Vinokourov, Michael Albasini. The second is of the peleton who who were in full "chase down mode" at this point. You can just see the Yellow Jersey (and final winner) Bradley Wiggins in the middle surrounded by other Sky riders. Thanks for the comments Bob and Marc. Having looked at these again with your comments in mind, I have to say that I agree with you. I'm away from my monitor at the moment but when I get a chance I'll do some "cropping".
When I was taking these I was in two minds what to do. Cycling is very much my sport and although I wanted to capture a few images I also wanted to see the spectacle that the Tour de France is. Shooting and watching at the same time are pretty difficult (at least they are for me) and these guys were really moving, blink and they'd gone.
Thanks Chris. I think we are in agreement over the cropping the sky out or at least reducing it considerably. You refer to losing the tower and road sign in #2 but I think you mean #1. As we've said, I agree about the sky/tower... personally I'm not so sure about losing the road sign on the left as it has a Gendarme behind it which is part of the story of how Le Tour is managed.... a rolling police traffic management presence. Having said that, I understand your point in the context of the main subject, the riders.
