I've been wanting to see how the D800E and Nikon 24-120 (my favorite walk around gear) would handle portraits in outdoor lighting conditions. So my friend Anna posed for me for a few shots during a recent off road trip into the mountains west of here. Lots of snow on the ground and bright afternoon sun to work with. I had her turn her back to the sun and used it to highlight here hair. I've shot portraits like this before in natural light letting the sun backlight the subject. Camera seemed to handle it well.

this was shot at iso 100 matrix metering 1/250 at f 8 converted to black and white using Silver Efex Pro
