Shot this the other day before the rain began across a large open wetland that borders the former State Hospital grounds on the west side of Traverse City. The old buildings date back to 1885 and held hundreds of mental patients. After the facility closed many of the buildings fell into disrepair. But eventually a developer came in and converted them to retail businesses and offices. The work continues today but the place is doing well.

There is a lot of history behind the old buildings here. This is just a fraction of the acres and acres of property here. They once had a huge garden on the property as well where patients raised food for the facility and it's guests.
