Have D90 and want to add a second system

I primarily shoot landscapes. In particular, sunset and sunrise colors and I love waterfalls - usually the ones requiring a lot of hiking to find. My problem is that I'm getting to that point in life that lugging my D90 etc (even in a backpack) is very tiring.

While I will most certainly use the D90 (I love the image quality!) when I can drive, I'd like to add something smaller and lighter for use in hiking. Anyone know of something smaller and lighter that gives good (or even great) IQ? I'm looking at the new Panasonic G3 micro four third, but it is really hard to determine anything in the reviews, even in picture reviews. Should I just grit my teeth and know I'll be sore the next day until Nikon comes up with something really great and comparable to a four third, or what?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Lynn
