I have a D80 that I do not use since I got my D300.
Some one wants to trade me a Leica M2 in very good condition for my D80.
Do you think this is a good trade?
I do shot film already, 35mm, MF and a 35mm RF so film is not new to me. The way I see it is the D80 will continue to decrease in value and the Leica is holding it's value very well.

If I had an extra Nikon D series laying around, in a heartbeat!
But then I have fun shooting an Exakta VX IIa.
You might check with these guys http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-collectors-historica/ but I am sure they are biased.

Re: Your Thoughts.
By all means, take the M2 if it is a good working sample as you suspect. At the very least, you can check out RF shooting to see if you like it. It takes a while to get used to a Leica M anyway. If you don't like it, then you can sell the Leica M, recovering most of its value.
Cameras come and cameras go, but the Leica remains. Some people will always want a Leica M... as long as there is film to shoot, anyway.
As you suspect, the digital SLR is melting in value like a PC accessory, while the M2 is holding its value like a fine Leitz laboratory instrument, made to last forever... almost.
I say: Go for the M2 before the man comes to his senses!

Make the trade. Work out the logic of it later.
Looking at your gallery, I see a SLR shooter, not a rangefinder guy. However, the Leica will enable you to shoot more quietly and unobtrusively during music rehearsals. I always preferred the M2 over the M3.
And what about a lens? I see that a new Summicron-M 35mm f/2 goes for $2,800 now.

Thanks Edo. That was a long time ago and the trade did not work out. Since then I have prucahsed a FED2 and a Zorki4 rangefinders. I sold the FED2, great camera, and I still have the Zorki4 which I like better. Someone wants to buy the Zorki4 and I am thinking about selling it.
I have a Nikon FE that I love. I have measured and weighed the FE and the Zorki4 RF and there is really not much difference at all. The Nikon lenses are a bit longer but that is the only real difference as far as size goes. My Nikon glass is razor sharp, plus the FE has a meter...I am still on the fence as to what the advantage of the RF is over the small SLR like the FE?
I am not saying there is no advantage I just have fully realized it yet. I guess it is quieter, but I never seem to be where the sound of the camera really makes a difference.
One advantage is the RF may be easier to shoot IR because you can still see through the viewfinder with the filter on the lens. Other than that I am not sure what the real advantages are.
If anybody has any thoughts on this I would appreciate hearing them.
