Anybody have any thoughts about Panoramic cameras? What to look for, etc...Can you get one for under 700? How about the Horizon? It lists for 660.00 at adorama. Thanks.

I entertained a pano camera for a long time before I recently bought my Xpan. There are a lot of ways to go. You can stitch a series of film scans or digital images into panoramas. The process is somewhat involved, but you don't need a special camera.
Panoramic cameras can be demanding to use, but they offer high resolution and you get the image in a single shot (or fewer shots if you're stitching together a super panorama or VR 360 image).
I went with the Xpan because it's the least demanding to use. You can shoot both standard 35mm frames and double wide panoramic shots on the same roll. It's a high quality camera capable of excellent results. And since it uses 35mm film, I can make scans with my 4000 ppi scanner and I don't have to find and carry roll film with me. A grey market kit will cost about $1500 and the $230 center gradient filter is pretty much required if you shoot film positives. Not cheap, but much less than the medium format alternatives.
The Horizon didn't appeal much to me because of the camera quality and reliability issues:
It seems that if you're tenacious and get a decent one, the camera can create some nice images. Buying from a reputable dealer like Adorama would give you the chance to return any problem camera until you hit a good one.
Maybe the pano bug will eventually draw me into a more challenging camera like a Horizon or Noblex, but frankly I'm very happy with the quality and capability of my Xpan. It does what I envisioned without a lot of fuss. I've only made a few "keeper" shots but I've started a photo.net folder of my Xpan shots:
Let me know if you decide to get into it. It is a lot of fun...

Sorry to rain on your parade gentlemen. But this thread is way off topic.. . Although I'd like a Panoramic Camera myself I can't see what it has to do with bags ans backpacks.
Please move this discussion to a more relevant location

I assume you mean to take up any further conversation under "other systems". Fair enough - I would guess that the question was posted here was by accident. As moderator, do you have the facility to transport the thread to the "other systems" forum?
The winnowing of topics has left a bit of vacuum. The thread on lightboxes isn't topical either, but it doesn't seem like a good fit for "other systems". I haven't looked at the available topics in a while, but the pruning may have gone a little overboard.
