Vivitar 105/2.5 Series 1 Macro ... any experience to share ??
Surfing the web I have found this lens and was amazed by its quality properties. (Photodo's MTF = 4) Since Vivitar is not the most well known brand regarding quality I found this very weird. Has any of you folks some experience with this lens ?? It claims to be a 1:1 macro.

If it fits your camera, get it. Whether you worship Harleys, Ninjas, or Gold Wings, who would pass up a chance to own an old Mach3?

When I first bought my N70 I was making the rounds at a shop in Chicago's north suburbs. They had a good selection of used lenses and I wasted a salesmans time on several occasions discussing the lenses in the case and I did buy a few. Among those I bought was a Vivitar 70-150 with 'close up' capabilities.
It has given me many good shots with the N70 and the Ftn since it is AI with the foot to index the meter. It gives me focusing down to about 1 foot and good performance for portrait work.
Anyhow the salesman Italked to had told me of selling the Vivitar Series 1 line and having positive feedback, I beleive he said he had owned examples himself. His story built the Series 1 's as the Pro line of Vivitar. Recently the Vivitar complete line has been said to be rebadged from another ...less reliable company and todays Vivitar line is not heard about much. He never had an example of those lenses in the shop so I don't think his line was sales pitch but it is thrid hand info.
The problem with mail order or on line is the loss of testing the lens on your body to see results because if a lens takes a clear image with decent contrast and no 'tint' it's a good lens in my book. Reading posts of disappointments with brand new glass my consumer radar goes off when I think about buying glass if I can't play with it first. I may miss some deals but I'm comfortable that I am the only person to blame for any prob's.

I'm not familiar with the Vivitar 105 but I'm very familiar with the Vivitar 90/2.5 Series 1. I didn't personally use it but I sat through many slide shows imposed on me by my photographer friend (which I didn't mind much ) that I've come to know the quality of the Vivitar 90 as if it was my own. My friend used it on a Pentax LX (another classic by the way). So if the Vivitar 90 is any indication of the 105's quality, then go get it!
