I guess that I'm going to have to eat a lot of my words. I've been bashing these little cameras and the 4/3 cameras for a while, but yesterday I stopped in at my local bricks and mortar dealer to try out the new NEX 7 and ended up leaving with the NEX 7, the kit lens, an 18-55, and an 18-200 which is a $900 lens, but they had an open box copy for $600 which I took, and it is tack sharp.

I had a bad taste in my mouth after buying a GF-1 a couple of years ago with all of the lenses, and all of them went back within a week, but this NEX-7 is absolutely incredible. The DXO scores confirm my personal experiences. It's not cheap but if you want something that is comparable to your Nikon pro or prosumer bodies and the nice glass, this is the ticket. I was going to lug my D3s to East Europe this summer because I didn't want to take this trip without being able to document a trip of a lifetime, but the NEX will be making the trip instead. Granted, I won't have my fast glass, but I am going to give up the speed, which I never had anyways in the film days, for a state of the art lightweight, kit.

I know that there are adapters for the Nikon glass, but that defeats the purpose. I want auto-focus and all of the features that are only available with Sony lenses.

This is a great camera, so if you're looking for a small lightweight system, try it out. It's the first camera that I have found that even comes close to the quality of the Nikon Pro system cameras and lenses. And, it probably exceeds the IQ and ISO abilities of all but the latest Nikons such as the D700, D3s, and yes, the D800.
