Sad but probably true with more and more reviews and pictures available, judging based on my personal color preferences and needs (landscape) I rate the latest digital competitors the following:
D60 >> S2 > D100
But the differences are as subtle as choosing different kind of film (Velvia, Astia, Provia ...).
At the end I decided to go with the D100 because of some technical advantages of the body itself. I know that I'm not going print all of the thousands of pictures I am going to take. Only a few will be printed. That's when I have to spend more time compared to the output of S2 (or D60) using Photoshop to get the perfect results I desire.
The D60 was out of the game right from the start. An equipment change was out of question. There would be no guarantee that updated models would display the same more favorable colors.
If I could just get a hand on a D100 ... right now I might have a better chance finding a ton of gold in my backyard than locating a D100
Have a nice day

What D100 advantages attract you? I'm still seeing the cameras as very close competitors. From this new review, it looks like the S2 gets a lot of shooting from the NiMH AA cells, so the Nikon dedicated cell isn't the performance advantage that will make up my mind.
I'd like to find out if the S2 firmware can be updated by the user. If the D100 has to be sent away, that's a significant negative to my mind.
Still waiting for Phil to cut through the static...
