This is addressed primarily to Coolpix or similar users, but anyone can play. Do you have a particular tripod that you use for just your digicam? Or in the process of shopping for one?

I use the same tripods for the Coolpix as for 35mm. I didn't invest in an expensive Arca-compatible plate for my 990 (necessary to work with my ballheads) - I cut down a flat dovetail plate so that the battery door could be opened without removing it.
The size and focal length range of the Coolpix make the 3001BPro a good tripod with the camera - not too big, heavy, or expensive. If you're into digital macro, the horizontal ceter column could be quite useful. The Gitzo Explorer would be a great macro tripod as well, but at a higher price.

You could put your Coolpix on a Gitzo G1548 + Arca Swiss B1G, but then the tripod might be a little oversized.
There is no such a thing like a Coolpix tripod, nor as there is a special tripod for an F3, or a Kiev 6x6, or a Can--, (oeps ..., I almost pronounced it).
The size of the tripod is chosen in function of the weight and focal length (but these often are related) of your equipment. For a lightweight short focal Coolpix, you won't need that much of a tripod.
