I'm looking for a general purpose tripod for 35mm macro (as well as landscape) work in the field. Want these features:

1) Max ht, without center tube extension, of about 65".
2) Min ht, without center tube inversion, of about 8".
3) Ideally, clamp/cam rather than screw leg segment tighteners.
4) Ideally, pan/tilt or ball head would attach to the top of the leg assembly rather than to a center tube, or perhaps to a tube no longer than the thickness of the top of the leg assembly.

I've seen mention of using Gitzos ($$$, but maybe worth it), but also some models of Slik or Bogen/Manfrotto. Anyone have any specifics?

Thanks.
