Hey guys,

I'm trying to lighten my overall load while keeping the same capability for both travel and hiking. I've currently got a Bogen 3001 and 488RC2 head, which I love using, except I'm just trying to find a way to shave weight. Seems the way to go is a carbon fiber pod. I've been looking at these two (online at least), and they both shave more than 1 pound (3001 is 3.9 pounds, both of these are around 2.7 pounds).

Does anyone have experience with these? Are they about the same as the 3001 in terms of weight handling and stability? And any practical reason the Gitzo costs almost $150 more than the Slik besides brand? And why does the Slik have a 1/4" screw instead of 3/8"?

The other thing I'm looking at doing is switching my ballhead, the 1.5 pound 488 for a BH-3 or M10. Feel free to chime in on that too, though that's only going to save me about 4-6 ounces.

Thanks all for your help!
