Evening (well, morning)..
Any ideas or opinions on the Gitzo G1377M ball head?? Moose Peterson likes this, and as it is only about $199 at B&H, I was just wondering if it is any good??
I am thinking about putting it on a Manfrotto (440)/Bogen (3444) tripod....
Any thoughts or experiences???

The head won't accept Arca type plates without a G1387 adapter or it needs a different adapter to use Gitzo plates (which don't have anti twist design). Figure that into the cost of the head and you're close to the Kirk BH-3 and the Acratech heads that have Arca type clamps built in.
To me it makes little sense to get a ballhead and give up the speed and convenience of quick release. The Arca type plates from Kirk and Really Right Stuff are the best solution I've found - you can leave the plates mounted on your equipment since they are slim, light and custom fit. They are rock solid and you never have to worry about the plates loosening as you work.
