First, I got a new D800 three months ago and the 300mm f/4.

I own a Gitzo tripod with a Wimberley head.

I am thinking of buying a monopod to use with my camera/lens combo. They are light enough, but I have a tiny little shake with my hands and can hold it pretty steady, but not perfectly steady.

Is a monopod a waste? What kind of head should I get for it? I have RRS brackets.
