I am replacing my old Gitzo tripod with a much newer model. One that weights 6 lbs as opposed to 8 lbs.

Along with it I bought two new products from Really Right Stuff. The compact ballhead with lever QR. And the L Bracket to fit my Nikon D7000 and battery grip.

I have tried out L Brackets and they sure speed the process of your shooting on a tripod.

And I am hoping that there is just that 30% gain in smoothness and ease of locking on the Gitzo tripod. The old one was clunky and cantankerous. When you are in the studio on a tripod, you don't interruptions caused by levers, clamps and adjustors. I guess that's the justification of spending $300 on the upgraded gear.
