What a wonderful piece of gear it is! It doesn't move a bit when locking down-can't say that for my other ball heads. But the clamp is different. Instead of the safety stop grooves like my Induro BHD2 has, it has 2 pins. They don't even catch the safety stop screws on my Kirk plate for the D300. And with the Induro plates, the pins interfere with the stop screws(see photo). You have to mount the plate a little offset. What is the purpose of this design? What am I doing wrong lol? And the level-how do you see it with a camera mounted?

I don't have the Z1, but do use the Arca-Swiss B1 and B2 heads. I'm a big fan of the A-S heads.
I'm assuming the pins in the Z1 clamp are spring loaded. With this design the camera/lens plates must be dropped into the clamp from the top and not slid in from the end. This design is intended to eliminate the need for stop screws in the plate.
I prefer the Really Right Stuff lever clamps and have them on both my heads.
That clamp is designed to accept standard arca-swiss plates as well as the narrower "monoball fix" plates that will slide into the lower dovetails. Those pins are designed as a safety measure for the monoball fix plate system and not to interfere with a standard plate system.
Best to ignore them as best you can considering they interfere slightly with your induro plates. Is there a way to remove them from the bottom of the clamp? You could also replace the clamp with some other standard clamp if those pins are too inconvenient for you.
My Arca-Swiss Z1 have the same fixed stop pins. I use a RRS L-bracket on my Z1 flip-lock which works nice. I also have a Markins P3U plate for D3/D4 which works nice but have a different dovetail size which forces me to re-adjust the flip-lock when going between them. So I'll probably sell the Markins plate.
The only annoying thing with combination Arca-Swiss/RRS bracket is that the center marking on the Arca is on its front facing away from me while the marking on the RSS is facing towards me so I can not easily center it.
