I bought the Markins Lens Plate PL-75 for my Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4 ED-IF lens. The PL-75 came with 2 screws which is incompatible with my lens collar. I guess there is a 300mm f/4D ED-IF lens that the PL-75 is meant for? So, I'm wondering if I should get the PL-55 lens plate, but the description still mentions the -D model lens. Does anyone know if the PL-55 with one screw will work on my 300mm f/4 non-D model lens? I don't know how the -D model differs from mine?
>What you should do instead of getting a plate for the tripod >collar is to replace the whole tripod collar with a Kirk >collar. Much better support and it has an integrated plate.
aolander -- thanks for the suggestions -- I'll have to see if one of the screws will come out, at first glance I'm not sure they will but I'll try. As for the Kirk replacement collar, I'm trying to stay with Markins products, if possible, as they always warn that with the lever release clamp on the Markins Q20 ballhead, it is best to stick with one manufacturer. So, if I got Kirk, that would be mixed products between the camera plates and other lens plates and maybe need adjusting of the lever clamp??? Maybe it wouldn't be a problem? So, if I can get the PL-75 to work with one screw and safely secure the lens, that would be a good thing. Again, thanks. MauiKane
Thanks aolander for letting me know that one end of the slot was threaded so that i could remove one of the two screws. As small as the slot is, it wasn't obvious to me. Now the plate fits just fine and seems very secure. Mahalo for the clue! MauiKane
