Commercial MONOPOD I.D. Help!!!
I am interested in trying to purchase this commercial monopod with some sort of gimbal head.
I am not certain if this is a nikon product in itself, but was informed from a fellow photographer that it may be. I would assume
The picture attached was taken at a Nikon expo or show in Italy.
It was given to me by a fellow FLIKR member that could not ID it as well.
Not sure if this link will be able to post up on this thread.
If not, please inform me and I will try to correct it or
happy to send another pic via e-mail or add to this post.

The appears to be a Manfrotto 393 gimbal head. The monopod does not ring a bell off the top of my head but monopods are rather generic in function. I assume you are primarily interested in that rather unique gimbal head.
A caution: Personally I would find it difficult to use any gimbal on a monopod, especially with such a large and haevy lens, such as the lens pictured. My concern is that when loose it can easily get out of control and I would need a third arm and hand- two to keep control of the lens and one to lock and unlock the gimbal.
From comments I've seen here over the years, I think a majority feel as I do but there is a distinct minority that can deal with the problem I mention. Just giving you something to think about. However, it is hard to assess without all that gear set up and in your hands.

I don't think it is a monopod. It is simply a table mounted display piece. If you look at the table in the back ground of the picture you will see the complete set up bolted to the table top. It is something Nikon had made as part of their trade show booth.

Good observation, I missed that. My comments, of course, would still be relevant in the real world assuming Gobi thinks that head on a monopod is a good idea. And there are people that do that. Just wouldn't be me

Neil's absolutely right, I have the Manfrotto 393 myself.
This head's sturdiness presumes that you are using some heavy gear on it, do not consider saving on the sturdiness of the monopod!
On the link, I think it's just a base plate mounted on a rather heavy light stand!
