Hi Guys

Didn't think about this before reading in this group, I use to have a walimex FT-6666BT with a full wimberly, this set-up was okay to carry on my shoulder (or at least I think so).

Can you tell me if it is safe to carry my tripod with camera and lens over my shoulder using a Kirk BH-1 (with/without a sidekick)?

Camera D800 w/o MD12 GRIB
Nikkor 500/F4 VRII

Of course the things must be tightened down very well.

For "longer" treks I gather the legs and carry the set-up horizontally on my shoulder, legs pointing forward and camera behind me. Its comfortable and I know exactly where the legs are which is good when stoking in the nature.

But moving to a ball-head and sidekick, then what?
I think the sidekick will be just fine, but what about the ball-head? The ball-head will be positioned in the "grove" so I assume there will be less stress on it since the stem is supported more in the position.

What is you experiences which this?
