Anybody using the Wimberley Sidemount Head?
I was wondering if anybody has been using the Wimberley Sidemount Head?
I don't have a ballhead so am not interested in the Sidekick. I currently use a D90 with a Sigma 150-500. I'd be interested in hearing any impressions and experiences.

Well no responses here and not alot out there but after contacting Wimberley I have ordered one. I also considered the RRS PG-02 gimbal that is a sidemount but it was a little out of my price range. Though it looked pretty sweet. Both companies are super responsive when it comes to answering questions and offering advice. Made in the USA, too!Really looking forward to checking it out as I just upgraded to a D7000 to mate with my Sigma.
One thing I am considering is a leveling base, RRS recommended one with their set-up and it looks like a good idea. Any thoughts on that?

I have a sidemount adapter for the regular Wimberley head and it works just fine. I tried a Jobu gimbel head, but the Wimberley is far smoother.
I generally am able to level the tripod without using a leveling base. I prefer to have one less joint in the structure.

I have been using the Wimberley Sidemount Head for a couple of weeks now with a D7000 and a Sigma 150-500. With that combination it is very easy to mount,no issues whatsoever.Operation and build are excellent.I have hiked a few miles with it slung over my shoulder ,no problem.
