Once in awhile, I take a chance on lesser known equipment that sounds interesting. I did this several months ago when looking for a lightweight travel tripod. The more I researched the Sirui brand, the more intrigued I became. When I found one with exactly the specs I wanted, I pulled the trigger on the Sirui n-1004 tripod and the K20x ballhead.
I'm extremely happy so far with my purchase. Both the tripod and ballhead seem very well made and finished. It's extremely stable, yet folds down to 17.3 inches and the combo weighs about three and half pounds. The tripod by itself weighs two and half pounds. For a trip to Europe in June, it will take up very little room in my suitcase. The tripod is rated to support 26.5 pounds and the ballhead is rated at 55 pounds. The tripod comes with a nice carry case and a short center column for low angle work. Together, this set-up cost me about $285 from Adorama.

I'm just using it for a D7000 (no grip) and some lightweight lenses (18-105, 35, and 55-200 Nikkors).
However, I would expect it would do as well as Gitzo 2 series with something like a RRS BH40 head.
I think maybe it would be on the low end of OK for the D800 and those 500mm lenses. I don't think I would use the above Gitzo/RRS rig for your setup either. If that were my rig I might want to move up to the Sirui 3 series with the next size up ball head. The M3204 plus K30X outfit ($469 at Holga including free shipping) would be my choice for your rig.
It's WAY stout enough for my stuff though. One of the reasons I chose the D7K and those lenses was so I wouldn't have to get a bigger tripod and head. I am old and feeble and don't want to hump a big load around like I did when I was 30 and carrying a wooden 4x5 and three lenses and 12 film holders and a big stout wooden tripod.
Thanks for your feedback. As it turns out I got a good deal on a used tripod legs and ballhead. I went for this deal and just returned home (and typing this reply) with Gitzo GT-2531 and Arca Swiss Z1 for $675. That's approx $200 more than the next set that I would have gone for (Sirui M3204 plus K30X).

Hope that works well for you. I think it's on the light side for your rig, but I could easily be wrong and you may be very happy with it.
