Could someone reccomend a good tripod ballhead combo for carrying a lot of miles?I am using a D2XS a medium Carbon fiber Gitzo and a RRS BH-55.Now that I have bought a DKI need something lighter. You guys were instrumental in my purchase and boy am I glad.It has satisfied my hunger for a D3s.And I just bought a MB-11 for my wedding photography.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not the right forum for tripods, but I'll make a recommendation. Last year I bought a Feisol 3342 CF tripod and a Photo Clam PC44 ball head from Reallybigcameras. Together the setup weighs just over 3 lbs. I use this with a D7000 and a 300mm f4 lens for wildlife. I am more than pleased with this combo. Feisol makes two versions. One with anti-rotating legs and one without. I saved $90 and got the rotating legs version. I have no complaints. The Photo Clam is very smooth and will easily handle my camera/lens combo, even with a teleconverter. You can email Kerry and ask him any questions. A great guy to deal with.
I also have a PhotoClam PC-44 and a Feisol CT3441T with the non-rotating legs. No problems using it with a Sigma 400mmm f/5.6, 1.4TC and a D700. I haven't weighed the setup and defer to the weights posted by others. Sweet system. Tom
Sorry guys for not responding.I had to put my 92 year mother in a nursing home so everything has been on hold.I've been using a Gitzo1325 MK2 and RRS BH-55 with my D2Xs.Its too heavy.I bought a D7000 and will mostly use my 12-24 Nikon.I won't be using the battery grip and will use an L bracket.I need a tripod ballhead combo that is easy to carry but won't break the bank. The largest lens would possibly be my 70-200 2.8 I think Gitzo and RRS have priced their stuff out of reason.
