I'm definitely going to buy one of the above for My Gitzo 3530LS Legs that has a AS-Z1 on top of them.
Cheapest option is the NSN plate, but I like the weight reduction and the comfort of knowing my tripod hub is a single piece of aluminum!
My problem is in not knowing the diameter of the platforms of Markins hubs? Official specs are for the diameter of the entire hub. Neither Markins nor Nikonians provide the diameter of the actual platform on their websites. Nikonians Pro shop doesn't appear to carry the TH-30, which seems to be the larger hub.
The picture of TH-300 with Q20 shows a platform diameter exactly similar to that of Q20, which is smaller than my Z1.
Looking for some help form members who have any sort of knowledge on these hubs....
Markins makes a TB-30 Tripod Base for the 3 Series Mountianeer Tripods but no TH-300. Your GT3530LS is a Systematic Series so your options are the NSN Safety Plate or the Markins TH-300. There is a TH-200 Hub designed for 2 Series Tripods that have a smaller diameter than the TH-300 and may adding to the confusion. The diameter listed on Markins site for the TH-30 is 4.06 inches / 103mm. Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
Thanks Marty TH-30 is listed on their website and instruction pdf as one of the hubs for 3- series systematic tripods. The listed diameter is 107mm, but clearly that is the diameter of the entire hub rather than that of the platform alone.(i.e. with the leg attachment protrusions) Even 103mm, which is the listed diameter of the smaller TH-300 is way bigger than the diameter of Q20 ballhead. What I'm really after is the PLATFORM diameter of TH-30!
The base of the Z1 is 2 3/4 inches in diameter. The 3/8 inch hole in the center is about 14% of that diameter (13.6363%).
If the image of the TH30 on the Markins site is drawn exactly to scale, the 3/8 inch hole in the center of that picture is about 14.65% of the base diameter. (On screen, I measured the hole at 34 pixels and the diameter of the base as 232 pixels).
It appears based on those measurements that the TH30 platform may be just slightly smaller than the base of the Z1 - less than 3/16 inches. However, that would also make it just a hair wider than the 2 1/2 inch diameter of main cylinder of the Z1 (above the lip on the base). It would probably look very much like a single integrated unit and would provide plenty of support for the Z1
hi , with regard to the th 30 , I made some enquiries and was told that this was an item for the Asian market only and not Europe or USA ??? and that only the th200 and th300 are the only official models on sale in europe or usa , but the usa markins suppier did have stock ( this was a couple of months ago when i enquired) i found this quite strange as I think the th30 would be a more rigid / compact and aesthetic match for my gitzo gt3530ls with m20 head than the th300 which is taller ( and poss narrower ?). I've not really pursued it much further after my investigation but in a couple of months I think I will be ordering the th300 from the USA when my brother goes on vacation.
