hi! I'm pretty new to photography. I want to look for a new tripod to replace an old velbon. Currently i'm using a F80 with a 28-105. I plan to buy bigger lenses in the future, so have to take tat into consideration when buying a new tripod. I was looking at the bogen 3021pro and the gitzo g1220. As for the ballhead, was looking for the bogen 3038, but the guy at the shop recommended a foba mini superball. The foba ball head felt quite good, but couldn't get to feel the bogen head. Do any of you guys have any experience with foba heads? and which leg shd i get? the gitzo one is more expensive, but tot tat if its good....it's worth the investment...
If you care to peek at my profile you´ll see the tripods and heads I own; I can recommend any of them. Have a great time JRP (Nikonian at the north-eastern Mexican desert) My profile Previous photographic journey, before Nikonians: A Brief Love Story
Depends on what you want to spend. The Gitzo 1276m is a very well made head that doesn't cost an arm & a leg. I think B&H HAS them for about $187.00. I own two of them & if interested can let you have one for a real good price. Great ball head built like a tank will out live you. Thomas
I have seen the Gitzo tripods up close at work. Never bought one, good stuff but pricey and nothing a good Manfrotto (Bogen) doesn't have or can't accomplish in their Pro models. As for the Foba heads, they seem very well built, however their long levers could get caught while carrying around. I much prefer a ballhead with a "slim" profile of buttons/dials rather than long levers.
