What really stands out is the stem-knob length difference.
I will be using it on a heavy Gitzo Studex Performance tripod and Gitzo 1566 monopod with D700 primarily 300 f/4.
A previous post alluded to a slight base diameter difference and referenced the Traveler tripod so that's not an issue for me.
My obvious question is which to purchase. The traveler is $20 more expensive and one would hope it offers something for that $20. But there must be a very real advantage or disadvantage of the stem length.
The Q3T was specifically engineered to deal with the legs folding up on a Traveler tripod. Sounds like you have no need for that
The wider base of the standard Q3 may likely make it easier to tighten down and remove the head- something important if you plan to swap it between your tripod and monody. The best way to swap heads is to use a thin plastic strap wrench. The strap needs to grab something, so I suspect the wider base helps. I have never handled a Q3T; I base my observation solely on using the standard Markins heads. I could be wrong, but in any event there is no need for a Q3T here. _________________________________ Neil Nikonians Team My Gallery
