I am wondering the same thing. I am considering a 1228 with F-3 ballhead for $275. I also heard that these might be made by Gitzo; there was a Gitzo 1228 model in the past with nearly the same if not the exact specs.
I think any Gitzo connection is wishfull thinking, more likely copied from a 1228. It doesn't make sense for Gitzo to make a Bogan/Manofotto killer.
It's easy to make a casting off a Gitzo, the question is in workmanship and quality of materials. Sight unseen I don't trust anything that doesn't have a lot of good feedback from people who know quality.
I would give two to one odds that Flashpoint is a Benro product, which is a Gitso knockout. I own a Benro ballhead and tripod. They look the same as the Flashpoint. Also, pricing is about the same. Maybe someone should call Adorama and ask them who the manufacturer is.
Yes...I am very pleased with my Benro ballhead and tripod. I would buy another one tomorrow. In fact, I may have to buy another tripod for my wife's spotting scope. Sorry for answering late.
There are some negative comments on the Benro, but many are unfounded. I have had no problem with mine and the quality/price is fantastic. I dare say that Benro, Induro, and Flashpoint come from the same Chinese factory...but I do not know this for a fact. But all three look very much alike in detail.
