I made a quick purchase before my recent trip to Hawaii and bought a Gitzo 0540 tripod with a Gitzo head; I was in a store and the sales person said it would be sturdy enough for my D80 with the 70-200 VR.

I got home and checked the Gitzo web page and that tripod is recomented up to 135; well, I wanted one that would pack small so it was fine, and I did use it with that lens, although not to full extension, and it worked fine.

I don't want to risk damaging the lens by using a tripod that is not or might not be sturdy enough, so now I'm looking at an addition to my tripod family.

I like the idea of the leveling tripod and would like to hear from those who use it. I spend a summer during college doing survey work for Southern Pacific Railroad and a passion for level tripods, or is it an obsession? It's not that bad, really, but I used one of those nice little bubble levels in Hawaii and it worked fine, somehow I've lost it though.

So, what do you experts think about the 2530LVL? Also, I've been thinking about a Markins Q-3; however, the GITZO site shows a very different style head for the LVL; a G2180 - Fluid head; will a markins fit on the 2530? or is the Gitzo fluid head the best way to go with that tripod? I wonder if the markins will sorta defeat the purpose of the LVL tripod.

Or maybe this is something I don't need and can get GT2530 and put a markins on it.

I'm getting confused so I'm gunna get my camera and go take some photos.
