I'm currently saving for a 200-400 and with it comes the question, should I invest in a Sidekick set-up as well, or should I just use it on my tripod (G1325+M20) as-is?

Specifically I have the following related questions:

Q1. In either case I need to invest in a lens replacement foot. I could choose either the Kirk LP47 or the Wimberley AP-553. I reckon for the Sidekick, it should definitely be the AP-553 (better balance).
However, regarding usability: how does the LP47 compare to the AP-553 when used either hand-held or mounted directly on the M20 (say I forgot to bring the Sidekick). Does the fact that the "plate" is closer to the lens hamper you in any way?

Q2. The big one (?): what are the advantages of using the Sidekick over mounting the lens on the M20 directly? In other words, "Do I really need the Sidekick?"

Q3. Do I need anything more than the Sidekick itself and the AP-553 replacement foot?

Q4. I also have a 70-200 and 80-400, how do these lenses behave with the Sidekick, and would they require different replacement feet to be mounted properly (my 70-200 has the Kirk LP45 replacement foot and the 80-400 has the Kirk LP38 plate)?

Thanks in advance for any advice, Hayo Baan
