I just recently acquired a Gitzo monopod. I have used it a couple of times and I am curious to what is the proper holding technique? I know the right hand is on the shutter and camera body. Where do I place my left hand? On the monopod? Under the lens (like usual)? What about steadying the monopod? I have heard that you have to lean the monopod into one leg or perhaps wrap my leg around it. Being that I have just got this monopod, I would like to learn the proper technique from the get-go.

Thanks in advance,
Johnny
