My wife an i, together with another couple are planning to go to greece in mid june. l plan to bring my tokina 20-35 f 2.8,nikkor 80-200 f 2.8 and 50 f 1.8 and the sb28,f80 with us. My wife ask me whether I will buy a tripod with us... i know my gears are already "heavy". So if consider to buy a new tripod( my old one is a not so steady) and bring this, my first choice is the Manfrotto 190(bogen 3001) and a small ball head( any suggestion?) What do you think? Thanks in advance.
IMHO, not a bad choice for a tripod that 190, however it measures just 4 1/2 inches less (when folded) than a 055Pro (3021Pro). It weights 1.74Kg (about 3.8 lbs) and the 055Pro is 2.40Kg (about 5.2 lbs). The ball I would put on the 190 would be a 352 (Bogen 3262), the ballhead for the 055Pro is the 268 (Bogen 3038). Whatever you choose, let us know how it went and ..... Have you considered a monopod instead? The carbon fiber models from Feisol are a bargain. Depending on the size of your luggage, either might fit inside and you wouldn't have to worry about getting it past security.
I'm using the larger Feisol with an old Gitzo ballhead and am very satisfied.
