For the holidays I decided to buy a decent tripod (my first one). After intensive research, I decided to go for the Gitzo 1325/1321 + RRS BH55.
Yesterday two mails: the Gitzo combination has arrived and the RRS + L-plates had been shipped.
Now the problem (hum)... There was no explanation with the gitzo combo (just a small leaflet). I want to assemble the levelling base but there seems to be a problem with my intelligence...
I took off the base plate of the G1325 and thought that you just had to slip in the levelling base. This doesn't work! The piece under the "ballhead" seems to small. When you let go the levelling base, it's the "ballhead" that rest on the tripod and I don't think this is right.
When I look at different sites, I notice that the "ballhead" seems smaller and the thing under the ballhead different from mine.
What am I doing wrong here? Your help wil be enormously appreciated!!!
I mailed to the vendor and the main importer of Gitzo. I also told them that I posted this at the Nikonians/Nikoncafe forum where a lot of people have the same combination and told them there was a piece missing. Today I got a mail from the vendor where he said that there was an adapter ring missing and that he could swap the models. What still puzzles me is why there seems to be two "models" of the G1321 over here. I'll keep you posted but all of your help is already kindly appreciated. It's thanks to you that I have the correct information!
Solved? I still didn't understood why I'd have to buy an extra piece while on the pictures of the G1321, the "bowl" seems an integrated part of it. After several contacts with the main importer, ... they confirmed that the bowl is NOT an integrated part of the G1321. It seems that in the States it is. When I compare prices this can be true because the combo G1321+G1422 matches your price of the G1321. I'm waiting for the G1422 now and hope they are right...
P.S.: I just received my RRS BH-55 LR, L-plate for D200 and LC-A11 + LCF-10. What a craftmanship! Hopefully the quality of my pics will boost with the same quality...
P.P.S.: I had to pay 254 dollars duty and taxes...
This morning, the G1422 arrived. Immediately, I tried to assemble the combination and... it worked! (at least I think...). Enclosed the pictures. I have (as a tripod newbie) a few questions now that maybe interesting also for other (new) users of this combo:
1. What is your order of levelling of the combo? For instance: first G1321, then RRS... 2. Maybe the dumbest question but what's the use of the handle on the G1321? 3. Other recommendations?
Got me. The G1325 normally comes with its own bowl adapter built-in.
To use it (if it works like a normal G1325 that is), first set up the legs, then losen the handle under the G1325 by turning it. This should let you swivel the G1325 in the bowl. Tighten the handle with the platform is level. Adjust your head like normal.
