28-70mm f2.8-4 High Speed Zoom
Has anyone run across any information (preliminary tests or ballpark pricing) on this lens (just released at Photokina)
(all pretty much variations on the same theme...)
was looking for something to fill the gap between my 24 & 85, was leaning towards a lighter zoom, which might be better for backpacking, and use the primes for more careful work... the 28-300 is interesting, but am quite reluctant to bet on the optical capability of a 10X+ to 1 zoom, Tamron also has a newer lens out (28-75 f2.8) and Tokina has the newer 28-70 SV (and of course the Nikkor 28-105 & 35-70 should also weigh in...
This one really would shave some weight off the backpack though (although not as much as the 45P 2.8!)
Would like to hear from anyone who knows more about this lens, thanks!
Edited to add I found this on Adorama (which may or may not be the same lens: http://www.adoramaphoto.com/catalog.tpl?op=details&sid=103642508024136498&sku=SG2870NKAF if so it's about $100, which would normally steer me away, then again the Nikkor 28-80 "G" zoom is rumoured to have pretty good performance. Almost seems blasphemous to bring up $100 lenses in the same thread as the 35-70, doesn't it?
