I just bought Sigma 100-300/4 lens, used it only 3 or 4 times, and today I noticed that I can turn the camera relative to the lens (that is around its optical axis) a few degrees back and forth. Is is OK? If not, how bad it is and do I have any chance of refund?
There has always been some play in the mount for my Bigma, though I wouldn't characterize it as several degrees. Just slight, detectable movement. However, since all controls end electrical contacts seems to work, and there are no light leaks, I have not been overly concerned about it. Pictures have always come out fine.
I got worried because I had not seen anything like that before. I checked once again. All my Nikkor lenses feel like one solid whole with the camera: no play, no wobble, nothing. I tried an old Sigma 35-135 and an ancient Soviet Helios with Nikon mount and could detect slight movement if I looked hard. But with this new Sigma it is something on the order of 1 degree. From what I heard so far it is OK.
