I an just getting started with LR 5.2 and Google's NIK collection of plugins. The collection includes a plugin with which filters can be applied to digital photo files. All of my photo files are in the RAW format. Do I still need to use filters on the camera lens or well the software give me the same results?
Thank you for your help, Bob

The filters in the Nik collection are not really optical effects filters as those used with your camera and lens. These are filters that give you output effects such as glamor glow, soft focus, colorization, etc. I recommend that you buy the best quality circular polarizer you can afford and if you are shooting outdoor scenes (particularly landscapes) a few graduated neutral density filters, and a solid neutral density filter. The ND Grads help to balance exposure so that youcan record the full range of exposure between the terrain and sky and the solid ND is useful when you want to hold back the daylight in order to shoot with slower shutter speeds for effect.

Circular polarizer. Don't leave home without it.
