In general, what is the maximum number of filters that can be stacked on a lens without vignetting? I imagine this is more of a problem for wide-angle lenses, so I just want a (very loose) rule of thumb for each focal length.

Now more specifically: I have a Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR DX, and am using 52mm filters on it, each of which is 4-5mm thick. How many of these filters can I stack?
