Well, the title almost says it all. I'm the soon-to-be owner of the 500mm VR II, thanks to the good people at Berger Bros. and a very indulgent wife. The vast majority of my shooting will be wildlife. Do I really want/need the drop-in polarizer?

As it is, I don't use polarizers on my other lenses, preferring neutral or clear filters (mostly for protection). I don't want to refight any of the filter wars here, I'm just interested in the opinions/experiences of people who have more experience than I.

(Spoiler: I'm hoping I won't have to drop $276 on an item of limited utility while I'm spending money like a drunken sailor on new tripods, Wimberley heads and God knows what else.)

Any and all responses are appreciated.
