B&W a better filter?

I don't want to debate whether or not to use a UV filter. At this point in time, I do use them for protection.

Problem is, the Tiffen UV filters (uncoated) that I've been using are ruining my pictures (and my friend's pictures) with ghosts and flare.

I'd be willing to look into B&W multicoated filters if they're any better, but I have no experience with them...hence this post. Can anyone shed some light on this?
