Greetings to you all. I have just purchased a 60mm micro, used. I have a concern though.
On the underside of the lens, below "made" in "made in japan" there is a small bump, which is very smooth. Looks like a heat blister. Is this part of the lens design, if so why. If not how can I tell if the lens is defective.
Thanks in advance

Nothing to worry, mine has it too....lens works like a champ. I am not sure if this is OEM, I also purchased mine use.
PS: If you are unsure, take some pictures and get them developed. Be prepared to be blown away with the sharpness and colors of the lens.
I came, I saw, I took a picture

Just to re-assure you further, I have both the 60mm and 105mm micro-nikkor and looking at them right now I can confirm that both lens have this bump. In fact the one on the 105mm is much larger.
Comparing these micro lens with my other nikkors (which do not have this bump), it seems to me that the "bump" might have something to do with the focusing limit switch on the micro lens. Please bear in mind that this is only my speculation!
