Sorry to ask such a rookie question. I have a D600 and my flash is an SB600. I'm interested in setting up photos with a wireless flash. Will I be able to use the SB600 for this purpose? I've read quite a bit about this online, but I'm still baffled.

I find the whole process of one flash controlling others fascinating and wanted a better understanding, so bought Matt Hagen's "The Nikon Creative Lighting System... ". It's a great resource on how the CLS system works with detailed instructions on how to use the different flashes, including the SB-600.
I use my D80's CLS commander mode to control two SB-600 speedlights off camera. It works very well as long as there is reasonable 'line of sight' from the camera's flash to the SB-600's. I can control the two speedlights as separate groups and set their power manually from the camera body. Awesome. Your D600 is way more camera than my D80, so you should be able to do this easily.
