D50 with Nikkor 28-80 lens for $699
At Ritz Camera they are offering the above deal with a free Epson R320 printer and a free $50 gift coupon.
Is this a good lens for the D50 or is the kit lens better? My friend wants to buy the D50 (per my recommendation), but I just have experience with the 18-55 kit lens.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Maria, the 28-80G is the lowest end of the Nikkor chain. It will be slower than the 18-55 because it is not AF-S and it will turn out to be a 42-120 lens because of the 1.5 crop factor not a very useful range. Plus it does not have the ED element your DX lens has. I would choose the 18-55 DX AF-S over the 28-80G. www.bhphotoandvideo.com online sells the D50 kit with the 18-55 DX for 699(you have to add it to your cart to see the real low price), they are very respected and well liked by most nikonians. Also I saw here that a member had a good buy from www.Buydig.com and had good results they list the kit with the 18-55DX for 639. Also Nikon has a rebate promotion for the printers at most nikon dealers as for the gift card I do not think it puts the 28-80G over the 18-55DX. Hope this helps Jim

If you push it, My Wife got me the D50 w/ the 28-80g for $649 at Ritz w/ the Free printer (after Rebate) and the Stuffed Bear. You might be able to find the deal online still.
