Does anyone have any experience or opinion on the color quality of the D40x vs. the D3100? I have heard that the color is possibly truer or in general less yellow in the D40x. I used my D40x constantly from 4th grade until 8th when I got my D3100. Now I have used the D3100 almost exclusively for the last 2 years. I am wondering if I am losing color quality for photos that I exhibit or compete with by not using my D40x, but my D3100 is so familiar to me now that I don't even really have to think to change settings anymore. It has become my go-to camera for everything.
Any opinions on the color comparison between the 2?
Striving to make my best better.

Since digital cameras allow so much adjustment with things like Picture Controls, White Balance, etc., you can make images from one camera look pretty much like any other camera. It don't know where you heard that the color from the D40X is "truer or less yellow", but that would be primarily an issue of White Balance which, as I mentioned, is adjustable.
Do you shoot JPEG with little or no post-processing, or RAW?

Have to say I would go along with the previous poster, ragarding your color balance question. The reason for my comment really has to do with your apparent age, and the photos you are producing. It would appear that you are a sophmore/junior in high school. I got into photography myself, at about that same age (a whole lotta years ago). So, you've got me by a few years on experience, at that point in time. Looked at some of your photos, and you have really got some nice shots there. The one of 'Grace', and the close up child shot show some great capability. Your technical, and compositional talents are really developing. I had a professional career for about 20 years, after graduating with a college photo degree. Anyway, keep up the good work, and keep enjoying the challenge. I have a D40, and a few D80's, and I have to say, the D40 can make some great photos. The D80's just allow me to control the manual adjustments much easier, like the old days. And, how about that 55-200mm lens. I'm always amazed at the quality of shots it is capable of producing, considering the reasonable price. Not familiar with the D3100, but if you are into manual control, the pricier bodies might give you a thrill. Good Luck

I agree with the above. Other than maybe some differences in white balance (particularly auto white balance), you shouldn't have any net difference in color.
Even if you did find some differences (say between two completely different cameras, such as a Nikon and a Fuji), you can adjust your software to compensate for that.
Your photography is outstanding. You've obviously got a career of one sort or another ahead.
