I just wanted to share part of a shot I took with the faithful D40x. Some turn up their noses at the little DSLR, especially since the D5000 and D3100 are out there. But look into my sister's glasses--that's the Coliseum in Rome.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Two things about this picture I should have mentioned. First, I had taken an image of my sister at lunch our first day of a trip in Italy; I didn't notice the image in her glasses until now and decided to blow up the picture to see what the images was. When I did, I realized she was looking at the Coliseum. Secondly, before I posted this picture, the image was cropped by about 70% and modified to emphasize the image in my sister's glasses--I made it septia, increased the contrast, and played with the levels and highlights and shadows in Iphoto.
Edited to add: Photo was shot with an AF-S Nikkor 18-200 VR zoom.
That's a great shot. I have traveled in the past with my (wife's) D40X and I think it's a great camera for travel. I've given thought to selling my D200 and keeping the D40X until something better comes along to replace the D200. I didn't take it to Italy, but kind of wish I had. That little camera with the 35mm f/1.8 is just a wonderful package. Just wish it didn't require quite so much menu diving to make setup changes.
