The Delkins LCD Screen Protector for my D-50 arrived today. The clear glass does a decent job of protecting the screen and doesn't interfere with using the viewfinder. The snap-up hood is a nice idea but I won't be using it for the following reasons: > Having handily "snapped-up," the hood must then be folded carefully back in place each time you want to use the viewfinder. > Removing the hood was not difficult. But getting it back on again was.
Result: The clear glass protector fits perfectly and is useful. The hood, alas, is not. It should be as easy to snap down as snap up, but it's not.
Thank you for contacting Hoodman for information about a FlipUp Cap for the Nikon D50.
We will have a new FlipUp cap available for the Nikon D50 sometime after the middle of November. This new product will snap directly on to the back of the D50 and will provide screen protection as well as some glare reduction. The price for the H-D50 FlipUp will be $34.99 plus shipping and handling. Please check back on our website in the near future on the following page for updates:
If you wish to place a pre-order for this item you may do so by calling us on the number shown below. Your credit card would not be charged until the item was ready to ship. The cap for the Nikon D70 does not fit the D50.
The HSLR-2 Pro Cap may obscure the outer edges of your view of the LCD but it will work well on it. The actual physical dimensions of the cap outer edges are 1 7/8" wide by 1 7/16" high and the mounting surface is 1/8" wide. The only other option for this camera until the H-D50 FlipUp Cap comes out would be the H-200 Hood and the HSK-3 Hoodskins.
We hope this information is helpful to you. Please contact us again if you have additional questions about our products.

Ok, the flip up hoods look annoying. Flip it down so you can get to the viewfinder, flip it up so you can see the shot. Sounds like a flipping pain The HSK-3 looks promising for scratch protection.....I need to do something I think either way.
Comments/thoughts for those of you that have the flip hoods on your other gear?
A friend of mine has a delkin(I think) hood he got from B&H and the hood part comes off leavng the protective glass I am not sure if the hoodman comes off. Plus there is a clear hard plastic cover that sticks on from hoodman. Go to the digital section of B&H and click on LCD covers. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?
As far as the HSK-3 there are a few poly plastic covers out there for the D50 I have seen them used on coolpix etc and they do a good job of scratch protection. Check Ebay under a nikon D50 search there is one that is made to custom fit the D50, EXiM Screen Protectors. Plus one from 3M from germany on Ebay. Hope this helps. Jim

As I said in my prior post - the Flip up cover slides off and on of the glass Delkin LCD protector for the D50. It's very simple to do and no problem at all - currently I just leave mine off all of the time as I find the flip up deal annoying as well.
Unless your adverse to using the "stick on" deal - I see no reason whatsoever to wait on a Hoodman one and not just buy the Delkin.

Thanks for taking the time to repost your thoughts. With all I am reading and learning I miss some of the details at times or more accuratly they get lost in my head. That is exaclty the type I had in mind, just ordered it.
