My 2 year old D70 has recently given me images with the top of the picture blacked out. It looks similar to flash-sink curtain problem, except the top of the image is blocked out instead of the side. Also, the blacked out portion of the image is not a straight line, but close. This has happened using different lenses, and differnt settings (sports, or portrait). I did look in the camera, using the mirror-lock feature, thinking maybe something was hanging from the mirror. Nothing appearant. Any ideas? Could this be a software issue?

I've seen this happen when the CF card is almost full or going bad. What happens if you use a different card? It it's still the same, the body probably needs a service.

Zoom in on the photo when it goes black, is there red, green, blue pixels, it normally writes right to left. I have had this happen twice. With different CF cards just a bad writes to the card. I now always Nikon transfer then have it delete the photos after transfer and then reformat in camera, and I haven't had any more issues
