I have never used a digital camera before, but the bug is catching slowly The specs say the ISO speed starts at 200. I have some questions. The ISO applies in the case of films, why the number in digital cameras. And why not from ISO 50 onwards? Does this mean there will be grains or will I still be able to get a Velvia 50 like image with D70.

You will get better than Velvia images from ISO 200 on the D70 (or D100, or ....). This is the base sensitivity of the sensor. If you shoot faster than this, you will be applifying the signal and thereby introducing noise to some degree, but when whooting at the base ISO there is no noise to speak of.
