Is there any significance (other than a sequential ordering) to the D70 serial number? Is there anyway to correlate it to a manufacture date, hardware version, or region (e.g., first digit of 3 = USA)? Mine is 3047xxx, purchased in early June from Ritz. I've also seen a 4xxxxxx s/n posted, which must mean a different region or hardware change.
Mine was purchased in early May in Germany and starts with 402. I wondering how the serial numbers are going to work since Nikon is planning to produce as many as 70,000 units a month (at least I read a press release that they are about to do so).
If the picture isn't good, you weren't close enough (or the lab screwed it up) !
I feel much better now I understood a previous post to say that if it starts with 3 it is bad....Mine starts with 3 bought from willoughby's online in US I bought it over the weekend and now I'm soo excited to have it I don't know what to do... =-) oh yea...pictures gotta take some pictures.....
I purchase my D70 (body only) at a Wolf Camera store in the Atlanta area on June 28. Serial number 308xxxx. Both firmware updates were on the camera when purchased. I went into another Wolf Camera today and there was one D70 with kit lens on the shelf.
I have a 600xxxx,purchased at the start of June,in Dunedin, New Zealand. You know it's quite good to be hidden away at the bottom of the world,I walked into my camera store, told them what I wanted and walked out around an hour later with my D70 kit and SB800, had to wait about 3 weeks for a 80-400vr though as there weren't any in the country!!! I feel sorry for you guys in other places that have to wait forever to get a camera, but then again your'e paying less for it!
Hi, mine starts with 700XXXX purchased from digitalfotoclub in the States when I couldn't get a hold of one here in the UK. I've since found out that it was a grey import as I couldn't register it in the States or the UK but no worries from the Asian website. The plus side of it is that I received a worldwide warranty rather than just the US one.
