So we're all excited that some D80s started trickling out into the mail and towards our homes today. If you've received your D80 or a notice it's shipped and on its way to your door, post a message here listing where you ordered from and what day it shipped out.

I went into Ritz today to order the D80. As they were entering the order, backordered items were displayed as backordered, but the salesperson told me that the D80 was in inventory. I ordered the body only. I have no idea when I'll get it, but it shouldn't be long.
After literally chasing the crazy FedEx driver ALL OVER town this afternoon because he DID NOT leave my camera as I had asked him to, I finally caught up with him and got my D80 off his truck. This is a whole other story but the best news is I DID get my D80 today and it looks really nice. I am still waiting for the "BLINKING" light to stop blinking before I can actually turn it on but it appears to be just a tad smaller than my D70 and a little different layout but feels very familar in my hand. I will also have to wait for my SD cards to arrive before I can actually take some photos because all I have is CF cards and this is killing me. I may have to run to WalMart to see if they have one which will work to get me by until the two I ordered arrive.
Anyway, I had 3 of these on pre-order and this is the one which I had on pre-order at Ritz.com. They seem to be one of the first ones to receive and ship things out but last week when I found out Ritz had shipped this one I called one of the other places I had pre-ordered from to cancel and they told me they would have them in today.
Anyway, I just wanted to update and let everyone know I have my D80 in hand and it is really nice especially considering it is $700 cheaper than the D200 which is what I was first going to order. I was actually able to buy another nice piece of glass (18-200mm VR) with the money I saved. Also, someone had asked in one of the other posts if Ritz.com was shipping the USA models and to answer that question, YES thank goodness it is a USA model. I would have been VERY disapointed if this baby would have been the import model.
Well, I hope everyone else gets theirs real soon and I will try to post some D80 images as soon as I get my SD cards and learn how to start this baby up!
I just placed my order with 17th Street Photo. They have the bodies only in stock, no waiting list for bodies only, and fast shipping. The URL is http://www.17photo.com. If there site says "backordered" call them in the morning. The salesperson said they might do that tonight to keep from having over orders.
For anyone interested in ordering a D80 immediately I just received email notifications from both B&H Photo (www.bhphotovideo.com)and DigitalFoto Club (www.digitalfotoclub.com) that they have the D80 in stock. I don't know what their website show because I was on the list from these places to be notified when they arrive so if you hurry you might be able to get one of these before they sell out again. The emails state that they have "limited" supplies.
I walked into my local store today in Parsippany, NJ... they got their's this morning... body only... picked one up.... I can tell you that I am spoiled by the D200's feel(I don't own a D200)... so the D80 feels cheap... have to get used to it.... but I bought it just the same...
They had 18-200 VRs... they sell them for 1000.00 they are taking advantage of the shortage.... their right, I suppose... but it kinda stung that a frequest buyer of their products wouldn't be offered the lens at 749.....
I don't have a good lens yet... sold my other lens' with my D70.... I only have an early 35-70 lens.... so I am awaiting the 18-200... from somewhere....
Got the call from Tempe Camera today that they had mine in.. body only, bought the 18-70 for starters.... battery charge will take a bit, might be able to take a few tomorrow......
nice feel to the camera,
Tempe Camera only got 4 in and werent expecting it so early.... all were spoken for, list is backing up they said. no extra batteries.... no 18-200 lens.... wish I could find both. then comes the 18-24 lens.
I ordered the D80 with 18-135 lens from Ritz the day it was announced. The following day I changed my order to the body only and added the 18-200 VR lens. This change somehow screwed up my order and each time I checked on it (both by phone and on-line) the order appeared to be different. I made at least a dozen attempts to fix this problem. Each time a nice Indian man or woman promised that everything was OK, but of course it wasn't. It was supposed to ship Friday, but just as I had feared, Ritz fouled up and I was left on the "reserved" list.
A phone call and a couple of emails (all very polite) expressing my disappointment resulted in a promise to ship ASAP, which was Tuesday since Monday was a holiday. Ritz agreed to pay for overnight shipping in an attempt to sooth my ruffled feathers.
My camera left Kansas yesterday afternoon and FedEx promises to have it at my door today (Wednesday), so give Ritz credit there.
Sadly, it seems to me that once I identified a problem with the order, Ritz should have fixed it, which they did not. These days poor service has spread around the world I guess. I have a strong feeling that the customer service people we all deal with in India have spent a lot of time in language school and charm school, but they seem to be equipped with nothing but a telephone. If they were also equipped with a computer keyboard and the authority to rectify problems, the whole process would greatly improve. Yes, it's nice to have a person say the company is "sorry" and "have a nice day", but actually fixing something would be pretty cool as well. Sigh.....

The 18-200 VR is still on DEEP back order at Ritz and they can't give a clue as to where I am on the waiting list or when they expect to fill my order. However, last week I noticed B&H had them in stock. I ordered one on-line with 2nd day shipping and got it two days later for $749. Unfortunately the window of opportunity didn't last more than an hour or so at B&H. I was lucky.
It's a sweet walk around lens and goes great with my D80.
Initially, I ordered the D80 + 18-55 lens from Adorama on Aug. 9. However, after seeing that Ritz had them in stock this past weekend, I called Adorama on Sunday and cancelled my initial order and reordered with Ritz. I took the free shipping, so it should be here Friday, but right now it is waiting at the FedEx in Kansas.
BTW, the reason I cancelled with Adorama is when I called them on Sunday, they had no idea when they would receive their shipment, and told me that it would be mid-September at least. When I told them that Ritz and Circuit City were shipping, they seemed a bit surprised. Looks like they still don't have them in stock....
OS camera in Osaka japan. They had a heap of them in stock. I heard somewhere that the release date had been pushed back in Japan but seems to be plenty around. I didn't have mine pre-ordered just walked in off the street this morning.
Mine arrived today from Ritz! (Ordered on Sunday, and was shipped from KS via the free shipping.) It is smaller than I expected but I think I will actually like that better once I get used to the size. I don't think the 18-200vr looks too gigantic on it, but then I'm used to the look of the 24-120 on my F80s. The only pictures I've taken so far are of my little boys...the color and amount of fill flash seem nicely balanced!
I ordered mine from Murphy's Camera, Louisville, KY a couple of weeks ago, received it Sept. 5. On Sept 6, I received the Nikon 18-200vr lenses I ordered from them a few weeks ago, too. Wow. Murphy's price for the camera was list, $999, and $739 ea. for the lenses. You can find murphyscamera online but think you need to call to talk with someone. Everyone at any Murphy's will be happy to help you. They are not a mailorder business but perhaps they will ship since the website does show an ebay store.
Got it this morning from KEH.com. Absolutely love the viewfinder and the larger lcd, compared to my d50. I'm sure I'll find other things. Flash commander, sub dial, etc.
The 18-135 is not too bad. I was expecting it to be very similiar to my old 18-70. It's not built as well, but AF speed and image quality seem to be on par. It does have the 70-135mm focal range that I'm sure I will find useful.
She says that she goes... and the girl from best buy say that they dont have that nikon, and she says yes you my cousin (me) saw in internet so go to almacen (spanish word) and bring one... says only have 3.
I ordered my D80 from Wolf Camera online on Sunday the 10th. I thought I would be waiting for a while to hear about a delivery confirmation. I was wrong. I checked my order status tonight and there was a tracking number available, it will be here Thursday the 14th. Woo Hoo...I will not complain one bit. I cant wait to open the box. Feels like Christmas! -Ladytrae
