Supposedly, Buydig already got some in and quickly sold them. It was on a forum on another site, and like everything else anything I read on the internet, especially in forums, I take with a grain of salt.

That was a false alarm. Buydig did not actually have any cameras, they called all the people who ordered them and gave them the option to cancel their orders or wait like everyone else.
>I was wondering if anyone had heard if there are any D80's >on the way or when the first ones might be delivered to the >USA? > I just checked (Friday early afternoon) my Ritz order and it has changed from "will ship when available" to "In stock, reserved".
So I assume if it's really in stock, it won't take long for them to get it out the door. I'm hoping they'll get it on the way sometime today so I won't have to wait for the long weekend.
Cha-ching! Thanks for posting about the update with your order status at Ritz. My order is with Adorama and they are taking their own sweet time. Thought I might contact them on Tuesday of next week. Or, has anyone else gotten an update from Adorama?
I just checked the status of my order at Ritz and it says my camera has shipped so I am assuming I have one on the way!
Also, when I canceled the one I had on order at another place they said they should also have it in stock on Tuesday so I am assuming that a lot of them are arriving to the USA either this week or early next week.
I will keep everyone posted when mine arrives.
I am getting really excited because this is perfect timing for me for some upcoming shoots I have scheduled. Now, if I could ever get my 18-200 VR lens! :'(
Thanks Again and Have a Safe and Happy Holiday Weekend!
I just wanted to follow up with my previous post to let everyone know I went ahead and called Ritz just to verify the status of my order and they said my camera did ship today and is on the way!!!
I could not get much info earlier about my order status from the website so I figured a phone call would be better and they did verify that the camera had already shipped.
Then I had to scramble to get the other two which I had preordered canceled and it seems I caught them just in time because they were supposed to be ready to ship on Tuesday so hopefully everyone who has one on order will get their's next week.
Now I have to try to find some memory cards locally because all I have are CF cards.
Oh well, can't sweat the small stuff! I am sure I can find some around here somewhere. This is one of the drawbacks of living in such a rural area.
Thank you for shopping at http://www.RitzCamera.com. ********************************** Order # has been shipped. Date Shipped: 9/01/06 Amount Charged: $999.99 ---------------------------------- Item(s) included in this invoice:
Looks like Ritz/Wolf are shipping tons of D80s while nobody else seems to have them yet. Does anyone know if these are US models or Grey market? They don't say anything about manufacturers warranty on the website (usually a bad sign), and when I called the rep was somewhat vague (or maybe he didn't know) and seemed to be more interested in selling their expensive extended service plan.
Ritz has such poor ratings from all the shopping services, but maybe they are trying to improve their status with the D80 if this is the real deal.
I just got the updated status on my D80 and it says it arrived at the Fed Ex sorting facility in Memphis, TN this morning at 7:07a.m. so I am assuming I should receive it on Tuesday since I ordered it with FedEx 2nd Day delivery.
I am not sure about the USA warranty but I was sure assuming it was the USA warranty model since it is at the $999 price. I will be sending it back if it is not.
Circuit City online is selling them with the 18-135mm lens and they have them in stock for $1299 w/free shipping. I bought my D200 from them as well as 3 extra batteries and the camera had a USA warranty.

Here is a copy of my shipping notice for the body and the lens:

On whim I called one of the local Circuity City stores on Saturday night. After a few minutes searching their system she said they had four in stock. With an hour and half till store closing out the door I flew!
Once at the store it took them about an hour before the manager apologized and said that while their system shows them being received he couldn't track them down. But, another local store had three of them and he would give me a $50 discount for my troubles. Works for me I said. As with the sales person was writing up the order a stock person comes running up yelling he found them. Sure enough in his hands was the bright yellow box with the D80 logo. The serial number on mine looks to be pretty low as well - 3010XXX.
While I was on a pre-order for a body only mail order I couldn't resist - the $50 off was a nice deal as well. I'm working on images - weather permitting - but it's truly a great little camera. A d200 light - same great taste 35% less cash!
After literally chasing the crazy FedEx driver ALL OVER town this afternoon because he DID NOT leave my camera as I had asked him to, I finally caught up with him and got my D80 off his truck. This is a whole other story but the best news is I DID get my D80 today and it looks really nice. I am still waiting for the "BLINKING" light to stop blinking before I can actually turn it on but it appears to be just a tad smaller than my D70 and a little different layout but feels very familar in my hand. I will also have to wait for my SD cards to arrive before I can actually take some photos because all I have is CF cards and this is killing me. I may have to run to WalMart to see if they have one which will work to get me by until the two I ordered arrive.
Anyway, I had 3 of these on pre-order and this is the one which I had on pre-order at Ritz.com. They seem to be one of the first ones to receive and ship things out but last week when I found out Ritz had shipped this one I called one of the other places I had pre-ordered from to cancel and they told me they would have them in today.
Anyway, I just wanted to update and let everyone know I have my D80 in hand and it is really nice especially considering it is $700 cheaper than the D200 which is what I was first going to order. I was actually able to buy another nice piece of glass (18-200mm VR) with the money I saved. Also, someone had asked in one of the other posts if Ritz.com was shipping the USA models and to answer that question, YES thank goodness it is a USA model. I would have been VERY disapointed if this baby would have been the import model.
Well, I hope everyone else gets theirs real soon and I will try to post some D80 images as soon as I get my SD cards and learn how to start this baby up!
Bryant - I just handled the D80 with 17-135 kit lens not 1/2 hour ago at Best Buy . They were unpacking their shippment of three. Another Best Buy in our State- Wisconsin has them in stock as well. Good Luck - - - Cockers
For anyone still interested in ordering a D80 immediately I just received email notifications from both B&H Photo (www.bhphotovideo.com)and DigitalFoto Club (www.digitalfotoclub.com) that they have the D80 in stock. I don't know what their website show because I was on the list from these places to be notified when they arrive so if you hurry you might be able to get one of these before they sell out again. The emails state that they have "limited" supplies.

Hey Cockers, Thanks and I got my D80 today although I haven't been able to use it yet because I am waiting for the battery to charge and waiting for my SD cards to be delivered.
Anyway, I was just wondering what you thought about the D80 and if you bought one or was just trying it out at the store. I wish Nikon would have made that 17-135mm lens a VR lens and I would have ordered it as a kit because I don't think I will ever get my 18-200mm VR lens. I have 3 of them ordered at 3 different places but I don't think I will ever get one.
Anyway, I was pretty impressed with the feel of the D80 and I was just wondering what you thought about it.
Bryant - you can bet I considered it - - What Nikonian wouldn't? I already own a D200 and my wife loves her D50, so for the time being we're set - - TOO BAD!!!!
Anyway, the in short time that I played with it in the store I've fairly well convinced myself it will someday end up in my kit as a back-up to my D200. You're right, it has a really nice feel - a bit smaller than the D70 and a tad larger than the D50. The 17-135 seemed very similar in build quality to the 17-80 kit lens that came with my D200.
